I spy with my little eyes…May 4th, 2008
I spy with my little eyes something worth stealing.
No matter what niche you intend to venture in , it is always nice to have a rival once in awhile. When I say rival , I mean the real succesful that you secretly envy and hate because they are better then you.
Most would be saying : WTF?!? There ain’t no way I want competition from others . I would make much more profit if I was all alone in my niche!
That statement may be true but the learning curve would be horribly longer for you if don’t have anyone to ” replicate” his work.
I advise most newbies or first timers to try and imitate rentable sites ( Don’t go for saturated niches like Make Money Blogs or you will be very very frustrated ).
IE: Webmaster A currently makes 500 a month with a site in a non saturated Health Niche. Webmaster B , who is a noob , copies him and tests it. Webmaster B has a chance to earn a similar revenue if he knows what he is doing and does his homework like a good boy
.
Imitation still requires work and time but perhaps less then coming up with your own new idea. Just afterwards you should be aware that you have to move on if you want to make serious money.

About a week ago , Jason Pereira from theuniversitykid.com contacted me from Entrecard in order to know if I was interested in sponsoring one of his contest.
Of course , I normally don’t do anything unless I get something worthwhile in return but when I knew that the contestants had to post the list of prizes containing a link to the sponsor in order to gain more entries for the event , I couldn’t pass up.
The rewards I offered:
1000 Entrecard credits
A free 125×125 banner for a month , a free text link ad on Neotrepreneur and a Free review on this blog.
A free 30 min consultation about any online venture’s questions you had.
If you noticed , all these rewards do not ask me for any investment except for my time( and God knows I got lots of that.)
Results:
My technorati rating is 54 and I have a rank of 140k which is approximatively half of what it used to be before the contest.
P.s: Technorati is important for It used as a pricing guideline for Sponsored Reviews.
The morale:
When you are asked to give out free stuff , always look for the possible benefits of doing so.

Moving from Short term to LongFebruary 14th, 2008
I decided to stop trying to flip websites ( Could have made a decent amount though) on a short term basis and rather go for long term projects.
I don’t know about you guys but I’d rather set up something earning me in the high $XXX on autopilot or semi then working hours for a revenue in the mid $XXXX. ( That’s just me)
Work that involves minimal labor can be replicated and that spare time can be directed towards other things but If you invest hours on a sole subject, you will not have any ways to create other revenue sources or tweak different facets of your businesses.
Here are some projects that I’m ditching :
Proxies( They get blocked often and I don’t want to bloody remake a new one every time one of the oldies can’t be accessed anymore).
Website flipping( I don’t want to make a site and then sell it for one month later. That’s not what I’m looking for in a business).
Others I’m looking into:
Starting a social networking website like perhaps Myspace or Facebook on a specific niche( Perhaps a Video game I love or something popular that interests me)
Starting a proxy listing( This kind of project could work wonders for my proxy promotion service)
Create a website for my article writing service while perhaps hiring a proofreader for my team.
Create some minimal work websites perhaps like bash.org that I could properly monetize through adsense and other PPCs.
When creating a long term business , make sure it is something you love so you don’t get bored out of your skull during the building process.
Any other suggestions?
Btw, Neotrepreneur just had broken the 50 suscriber feed yesterday . Wonder how long it will stay there for?
