Permalink or Die
A permalink , also called a deeplink , is an URL that directs to an article or inner page of a website and not to the homepage.
Let’s say,I just made an article on Bush and the address is www.neotrepreneur.com/bush. Well, If someone wanted to linkback directly to my content and not to the index , they would have to use www.neotrepreneur.com/bush instead of www.neotrepreneur.com .
They are basically two types of permalinks that you will often see:
The numeric one where an inner page url would be like this : yourwebsite.com/?p=123
And The date and name based one which is yourwebsite.com/the-name-of-your-post. In this case, each dash represents the spaces you put in the title of your particular content.
Now, the deeplink you want to use is the second one.
Why is that?
This permalink has far greater SEO value which is a must for getting search engine traffic to your blog.
A keyword rich deeplink can get you higher SERPS for an inner page even if you write about a competitive niche.
Take my blog for example. If you type ‘Make Money online blog’ in Google , you probably won’t see my website anywhere near the top results but if you enter ‘Definition of GPT sites’ which the url is www.neotrepreneur.com/what-is-a-GPT-site , my site ranks first for that keyword.
Get the importance now? So even if your website is about viagra which must be the most saturated niche ever, you can still rank high for a certain article in your site.
But What if I’m just too lazy or just don’t know how to change my permalink?
That’s why you’re reading my post you twat. Here is a brief walkthrough to do it with Wordpress:
1. Go to your WP-admin section.
2. Click Options.
3. Go to Permalink
4. Under common options , select Date and Name Based.
Thats it.
USE THIS PERMALINK RIGHT NOW so Search engines do not have to recrawl your site to find the new urls .
