PageRank’s function nowadays
If you are a complete newbie and dont know squat about Page Rank , heres a great post about it.
Pr nowadays is considered not very important for they do not seem to influence Search Engine Rankings Pages or SERPS for short.
But what most lady and gents agree on , wheter it is subconciously or knowingly, is that Pagerank acts like a quality seal.
Seeing a blog or website with high PR gives the impression that the site is somewhat renowned and prestigious.
If you own a website with a certain PR , people will tend to pay a higher a fee to advertise on your site as they want to get some of the goodie Link juice you will pass on .
An example of how it can affect your traffic:
If you read my article on getting a free sitewide link , you know that viewers will post comments to acquire that spot in the Top Commentators but what happens if you do not have any PR? It will defeat the purpose for people that want to obtain link juice.
The result: Less will comment , more of your posts will be left untouched or undiscussed which may affect your traffic in the long run.
Having a low Pagerank might affect the revenue and traffic of your blog.

When discussing Pagernak, it’s important to differntiate between “toolbar pagerank” and actual “link juice”. Toolbar Pagerank is the little green bar we see in the Google toolbar, it is only updated a few times a year.
Actual Pagerank is dynamic and is constantly updating. If you want to know the true “link juice” a site has, you can use Yahoo to check for backlinks, which is a common way most SEO’s insure their work is being done.
All you do is go to Yahoo and type :
linkdomain:mysite.com -site:mysite.com
insert the domain your checking for mysite.com

Link Juice & PR are two different things.
These days there is a lot of talk about PR not being worth anything, but I agree with Neotrepreneur about PR becoming a Quality indicator. I often look to see if a site has any PR.
I know for fact that Link Juice is very important though and will lead to improved PR. We did a case study on this and our test blog achieved PR5 in 6 weeks mostly with link juice.
